“As long as there is democracy, there will be people wanting to play jazz, because nothing else will ever so perfectly capture the democratic process in sound,” said Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director, GRAMMY and Pulitzer Prize winning composer, musician, and IAJE member. “Jazz teaches you the world is big enough to accommodate us all.”
Jazz continues to grow, thanks in great part to the International Association for Jazz Education, a partnership of more that 9,000 educators, performers, and music industry executives in 45 countries. IAJE is a leading champion for jazz and catalyst for its potential.
“We’re looking to preserve the tradition of jazz, but also realize the tradition is only operative if we pass it along,” said David Baker, NEA Jazz Master, Indiana University Distinguished Professor, and Campaign for Jazz Co-Chair. “Our responsibility is very clear. If we don’t give back to jazz, if we don’t train, educate and support jazz, we lose it!”
To ensure a strong future for jazz, IAJE has undertaken an ambitious $12 million initiative, the Campaign for Jazz. Through this effort, we can build a stronger, larger, healthier jazz community by:- Expanding IAJE’s Artist Outreach Network, regional and international conferences, scholarships, and talent recognition programs.
- Providing professional development and training to all IAJE member segments through an expanded Teacher Training Institute at our new Summer Institute home in Park City, Utah.
- Growing the global jazz audience through consolidated research, marketing, and advocacy, thereby creating more work for jazz musicians and stimulating a stronger economic base for the jazz industry.
We invite you to join with us in this landmark campaign, which is comprised of 6 primary initiatives: Professional Development, Artist Outreach, Scholarships, Global Outreach, Talent and Service Recognition, and Advocacy. Make an investment in the future for worldwide growth and development of jazz through education and outreach.
